Tutor’s Teaching Background

I have been an Associate Professor at NTU teaching physics, mathematics, computing and other engineering courses from 2008 to 2019. During then, I have won several teaching awards for my excellence in teaching. I was also nominated as the top 2% scientist globally by Stanford University (http://doi.org/10.17632/btchxktzyw.3) in 2021. Since 2019, I have been a private tutor focusing on IB physics, mathematics and A level physics and mathematics. Together with my experience in NTU, I am therefore very familiar with the IB syllabus. So far I have taught more than 40 IB students. All my IB physics tutees come from different schools such as HCIS, SJI, SJII, ACSI, Nexus, AIS, SAIS, GESS, CIS, UWCSEA, OFS etc. Current IB maths students: 2024 - 4 IB SL Maths, 4 IB HL Maths Past IB maths students: 2019 - Four IB SL Maths, Five IB HL Maths (IB results: grade 6 and 7). 2020 - Five IB SL Maths, Five IB HL Maths. (IB results: grade 6 and 7). 2021 - Four IB SL Maths, Six IB HL Maths. (IB results: grade 6 and 7). 2022 - Four IB SL Maths, Six IB HL Maths. (IB results: grade 6 and 7). 2023 - Six IB SL Maths, Seven IB HL Maths. (IB results: grade 6 and 7). Parents’ testimonial: Testimonial (1): Being a mother, finding the right mentor for my daughter has been paramount. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Chee How, whose dedication and commitment to nurturing my daughter's academic growth have been truly exceptional. Chee How doesn't just teach maths and physics; he ignites a genuine passion for learning. With patience and expertise, he has tailored lessons to suit my daughter's unique learning style, making even the most challenging topics comprehensible and engaging. His ability to create a supportive and encouraging environment has significantly boosted my daughter's confidence and academic performance. Beyond academics, Chee How has been a great mentor to my daughter. I am truly grateful for the positive impact he had on my daughter's education and personal growth. His passion for teaching shines through in every lesson, and I can confidently say that he is not just a teacher but also a mentor and role model. He has made a significant difference in my daughter's life, and for that, I will always be grateful.

I highly recommend Chee How to anyone who needs physics and maths tutor and to attend his lessons at his office which is very conducive for learning. - E (2023) Students’ testimonials: Testimonial (1): Dr. Wong has been an excellent physics and maths tutor, offering his full support and help whenever needed. It is clear that he truly wants his students to succeed in their studies. Although my lessons began a while after the first year of IB, catching up to all the prior topics whilst still learning ahead was a smooth process. Dr. Wong is extremely organised and explains concepts in a clear and precise manner, making the information easy to comprehend. My understanding and performance vastly improved since starting these lessons and I am now very happy with my final physics and maths exam grade. It was a huge help to be introduced to Dr. Wong. - H (GESS, 2020) Testimonial (2): Thank you very much Chee How for having the patience to deal with my dumb questions and also with the technical difficulties that I had. You had made the lessons very engaging that it almost made me to change my major in my university application to Physics. Overall, thank you very much for this enjoyable journey. - P (ACSI, 2020) Testimonial (3): Dr Wong is a kind and understanding teacher who explains physics amd maths topics in detail but does not make it overwhelmingly complicated. He provides adequate class materials as well as practice questions to put the learning into practice. He is willing to answer questions out of class hours as well as stay back to clarify details about the topics learnt. In lessons, he is approachable and I learn a lot, both in addition to that already learnt in class as well as new information that is helpful. With his help, my physics and maths grade rose by three grades. In the end, I have got 43/45 all thanks to Dr Wong! - M (SJII, 2022) Testimonial (4): Chee How is extremely adept at IB Physics and IB Maths explaining beyond the syllabus. He is very flexible in his teaching methods, and is able to suit students' different educational needs. Aside from going through the syllabus in a fluent manner, he can answer any questions students may have related to the content. He also has thorough material to help students who might have many gaps. It is a pleasure to learn from him. - C (UWCSEA, 2021) Testimonial (5): I’m Ash a student from St Joseph’s Institution. Chee How taught me HL Physics for about 7 months and in that short time he helped me pull my grades in physics from 4 to 7. He not only helped with teaching but he also helped review my physics IA and physics EE and helped me achieve a 7 for IA and an A in my EE. He provides wonderful notes and practice questions. He also explains concepts in multiple different ways with interesting analogies to aid my understanding. He is a very kind teacher who is very passionate in his teaching and has helped me in many ways. All in all my experience with Chee How has been wonderful :D - A (SJI, 2021) Testimonial (6): It is my great pleasure to recommend Wong Chee How as an IB physics and Maths tutor. As a student who took IB HL physics and maths, I had little to no confidence in the subject at first as I was struggling to grasp various concepts. I thus got to know Chee How who tutored me for one year before my IB examination. During this time, Chee How covered each topic with me in a highly structured manner and could always give answers to my questions in a way I could understand. This significantly strengthened my understanding of each concept and I had gained a new confidence in this subject. In addition, Chee How has a remarkable work ethic as he consistently shows up on time and has never once been late. He is a very friendly and patient tutor who is able to make students feel comfortable, maintaining a positive learning environment. Through my experience being tutored by Chee How, I had gained a greater interest in learning physics and maths as a whole as he showed enthusiasm in the subject as well as conducting each lesson with me. Hence it is without reservation that I recommend Wong Chee How for his experience and expertise. - K (SOTA, 2022) Testimonial (7): Chee How is a very good teacher who supports my learning in IB Physics in SJI in every way possible. Unlike most teachers in school, he is able to focus on every one of our weak learning points and guide us accordingly. I have improved greatly from my time learning from him + he provides free snacks! :) - BZ (SJI 2023) Testimonal (8): Chee How is a great physics tutor, having significantly helped me through the trials and tribulations that’s known as physics. When I first joined Chee How’s class, my fundamentals were shaky and there were many holes and gaps in my knowledge. However Chee How took extensive care and time to clarify my doubts and reinforce certain concepts such that going forward the more complex ideas could be broken down and understood with ease. Thank you Chee How! - MH (SJI - 2023) Testimonial (9): I am Kia Heng a student from Hwa Chong International. Chee How taught me IB Physics HL for almost around 2 years and despite me being really untalented in the subject, he somehow managed to drag my IA to a 7 and my exam grades from a bare minimum 4 to a high 6! While he is kind, he does not digress, and he teachers in a fun manner (excluding the physics puns). Anyway, he’s passionalte in teaching which may ignite your spark in physics / maths too! 1000/10 would want him to tutor me in university too. - KH (HCIS, 2022) Testimonial (10): Dr.Wong has been a great supporter of my physics course. Rather than memorising the entire concept, Dr.Wong helped me to understand physics from the basic structure and granted me a deeper understanding of it. He was enthusiastic to answer any questions from me. In 2 years, he prepared many learning materials which helped me to visualise and understand the concept more clearly. He also prepared questions which were strictly chosen based on past year papers, which helped tremendously for the actual IB exams. Through his help, I was able to save my physics score from failing. Dr.Wong has been a great help in conducting the internal assessment too, by suggesting many ideas for it. Despite it being my first time encountering internal assessment, I was able to conduct the research successfully. - J (Nexus, 2022) Testimonial (11): Chee How is very patient, and all the knowledge that he taught was very detailed and complex, yet he managed to explain it in an easy way for me to understand. Additionally, he always encouraged me when I was not doing well. He also have a good grasp of the students' fallibility and all the questions that I practised are very helpful in the preparation of exams and to strengthen my understanding on the topics. - ZWX (AIS, 2023) Testimonial (12): I am an IB student who have been having IB Physics tuition lessons with Chee How for one and half years. During this time, I improved and gained more comprehensive understanding of IB physics course. It also increases my interest toward physics. His professionalism and dedication have helped me a lot, not only limited to tests and exams, but also piqued my interest in physics. He is very understanding and kind, and have been very supportive of me even outside of classes. His responsibility have helped me improved my physics score from 2 to 6 in one of my tests in year 12. For me, I think that he helped me a lot in both academically but also outside of class. He taught me with lots of enthusiam and helped me to improve my attitude by becoming more positive. Additionally, he also helped me to have a clear purpose of my life within the right time. Anyway, I only have three words to describe - best teacher ever! My friend and I all love him so much! We are all so grateful to have him to be our physics tutor. - A (AIS, 2023) Testimonial (13): I have been taking IB physics and maths classes with Dr Wong for two years. It began as an online lesson when I was preparing for the high school entrance exam in Singapore. After about six months of learning from Dr Wong, I was admitted to one of my dream high schools in Singapore. As I have no prior knowledge in physics, I did poorly for my first test. However, after engaging Dr Wong to help me with IB physics and mathematics, in a short period of a few months, I obtained a grade 7 in one of the latest test. With the help of Dr Wong in such a short period of time, it was a remarkable progress and through that, I have also developed a strong interest in physics and maths. Dr Wong’s class is really enjoyable. The atmosphere of the class is not tense and the overall pace is good. Furthermore, he provided us with his own notes that are very helpful. He also manages to make highly abstract and challenging concepts easy to understand. Throughout his lessons, he will allow me time to do some practice questions to enhance my understanding of the concepts and hone my problem solving skills. Most importantly Dr Wong is a very responsible teacher. He even helped me to plan my studies. And he is always available to answer my questions despite it is after class or during unearthly hours. On top of that, Dr Wong is also a great mentor to me outside of academics. He is not just a great teacher, a great friend, but also a great “brother” to me. - H (AIS, 2023)
