Tutor’s Teaching Background

Does your child need the services of a top-rate tutor? Let me help with my mastery of languages. I am Sulastri, and I believe that learning should be real-world, multi-disciplinary, and relevant to a student's life. That is what would make learning meaningful to a student. I believe all children are born curious to learn.

I have 6 years of teaching experience from Nanyang Girls' High School, one of Singapore's top secondary schools, and I am able to teach English, English Literature, General Paper, Knowledge & Inquiry, Creative Writing, and Malay. I also have a Master of Arts (Research) in Philosophy from the National University of Singapore, which has trained me well in logic and critical thinking.

I usually form good rapport with students, which is crucial in establishing trust between tutor and student. I listen attentively to their difficulties, and I make sure I give them some room for choice and ownership in their learning. I enjoy the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring with them.

I have even tutored a Secondary 1 student with dyslexia before. The strategies I used included starting sessions with warm-ups with audiobooks first and language games, before proceeding to writing. A student with dyslexia is usually not confident about their writing ability, or would be scared of writing, so I designed writing exercises which were real-world and relevant to the student's life. It lessened their fear of writing.

My students walk away understanding that there are no shortcuts to good grades. To get an A1 in English, they know they would have needed to invest much time and effort in forming good habits, such as reading or listening to the news every day, and getting inspiration from the works of great writers, which I curate for them. Best of all, they feel satisfied that they have done their strategic best.
