For maths, he grasps concepts fast but has trouble applying the knowledge to new or different word problems. He got 26/100 for MYE and now, even with both weekly home and online tuition (as parent not sure if he would give full joint attention in physical tuition class setting), he got 28/100. Class teacher has recommended foundation maths. parent not sure what’s best for him in 2023 and in the long term if parent went ahead with this recommendation.
For science, he manages ok for MCQs which means his content knowledge is sound but he simply refuses to memorise keywords and tends to answer in layman words. Recently a home tutor recommended breaking down model answers into flowchart to ease his memorisation and it seems to have worked but it was too late as his score dropped from 52/100 in MYE to 39/100 in EOY. His teacher has recommended standard sci in P6 as he actually shows potential in daily class work and has full home support.
